Is Landscaping Plants Dangerous?

Landscaping plants can make a huge difference to the look and feel of a backyard, or a new garden. Landscape plants are usually the first thing you will notice when you arrive at your property. However, some landscaping plants can be dangerous if you are not careful.

Rosemary and garlic can both be poisonous if ingested. Even though they are considered safe for consumption, there have been reports of deaths from swallowing Rosemary leaves. You should refrain from using these plants around a swimming pool. A few plants that are not so safe to use around children are ivy, begonias, rhododendron, tulips, chrysanthemums and spider plants. These plants can also be dangerous if taken internally.

Lilies can be very beautiful additions to any yard. They are low maintenance, but still beautiful. Some people, however, are not aware of the fact that the roots of lilies can grow quite deep, which could pose a threat to someone who is standing under them. If you are planning to plant lily pads, it is important to place the pads far enough away from anything that could get stuck in the roots. Be careful not to place the pads too close to a tree.

Some other commonly used landscape plants are azaleas, begonias, herbs and roses. Azalea flowers look beautiful in a garden. They add color and can be used for border plants along walls or on tables. The downside to using these plants is that they can attract bees and other insects that are harmful to people.

Herbs are popular landscape plants, as well. However, there are some tips to follow when choosing which herbs you would like to use in your yard. If you are going to use herbs that attract bees or other insects, be sure that you do not plant them next to other nectar producing flowers. Many bees make their homes near flowers that are pollinating. If you are landscaping plants, be sure to plant flowers that will not attract bees to your yard.

Rose bushes are very popular landscape plants, because of the many different colors that they come in. It is easy to grow rose bushes, although some require special care. Most roses are not very dangerous, but it is wise to never keep roses inside of your home. In order to keep rose bushes safe, you should dig them up and take them outside. When you are landscaping plants, be aware of how the plant is growing, and if it is becoming too tall for its position.

Another plant that many people use for landscaping is the butterfly bush. While butterflies are attracted to the flowers of the butterfly bush, they can also be a nuisance to people, especially children. The problem with the butterfly bush is that some people plant them where they will have little wind to circulate the pollen. When this happens, it can be very dangerous to the person and can also affect the birds who live nearby.

While most landscaping plants are safe to use, it is still a good idea to be aware of what can cause them to become dangerous. Be sure to plant flowers next to each other to make sure that they will not attract insects that are harmful to both the flowers and the people who live in the neighborhood. Also, be careful when you are digging up your garden to make sure that you are not planting something that can be a potential danger to people walking or getting hurt. Landscaping is a fun hobby, but it can be dangerous if you are not aware of how to handle some of the plants you might plant.
