The Advantages of Contemporary Garden Ponds

If you’re looking for a fun way to incorporate a water feature into your landscape, consider building a contemporary garden pond. Building your own garden pond adds personality and makes the garden more interesting. A garden pond can be simple or it can be an elaborate water garden with underwater plants. To make the most of your garden pond, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

You can usually do the digging yourself, or pay (if you have the time) somebody else to do it for you. The advantage to this type of pond is you can build low levels into it. Most small animals can easily get out of the deeper parts of a pond, so landscaping ponds with shallow levels is better for them. This also helps prevent structural damage from leaks and can be easier to clean. Many garden ponds are built with steps leading down into them, but if yours isn’t already done that way, that’s another thing you can work on.

Landscape ponds are popular because they take less time to plant and maintain than most other types of garden ponds. These are smaller ponds, generally no more than five feet in size. Since they fit so nicely into a backyard landscape, many homeowners choose to install a decorative fence around their mini ponds. That’s one option; you can also opt for a fence with a water feature attached to it as well. These fence and water features can be a nice touch, because many people find the visual effect of having water in the garden to be attractive. However you decide to use your garden pond, landscaping the area can help you achieve a more natural feeling.

Contemporary garden ponds come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and designs, so you’re sure to find one that fits right into your garden’s overall feel. Small garden pond designs, sometimes referred to as miniature ponds, can be used as a means of creating privacy, by keeping peeping toms away. They can be a wonderful place for children to play while still being able to enjoy the beautiful sights that surround the garden pond.

Larger garden ponds, sometimes called landscaped garden ponds, can provide the beauty and serenity that can only be found in large, open ponds. Larger ponds offer you more privacy, because you’ll have a limited amount of landscaping options to help define your pond’s borders. You’ll also find that larger ponds have more to offer visually. With a large pond you have plenty of landscaping design options: backdrops, rocks, waterfalls, ponds with lily pads or flowers, etc. Some landscaping options even allow you to create entire landscaped areas around your pond.

Many people think that miniature ponds are too limiting in design and purpose. But, with today’s advanced designs and materials, mini ponds can be anything that you dream of. For example, in the past, a garden pond would consist solely of rocks and wood logs, or even small tree limbs placed above the water. But, with modern materials and designs, you can construct a wooden, stone, or concrete garden pond with ease. A concrete mini pond can provide year-round water feature, while a stone pond can provide a natural aesthetic beauty throughout the year.

Contemporary garden ponds come in many different shapes, sizes, colors, and materials. Smaller garden ponds, sometimes referred to as fish ponds, can be created for residential areas or they can be designed for commercial purposes. Some materials that are used in smaller garden ponds include pebbles, wood logs, decorative rocks, garden statues, stone, colored plastic or metal pieces, and much more. Large garden ponds are usually constructed from large pieces of rock and stone, while smaller garden ponds may be made from pebbles or other smaller and more flexible materials.

One of the advantages of constructing a contemporary garden pond is its ability to mimic the natural landscape that surrounds your home. For example, because a stone garden pond is constructed so close to the surface of the water, it can create the illusion of being part of an outdoor landscape that could easily be incorporated into your landscape painting. Also, with contemporary garden ponds, you are given the opportunity to add as much or as little natural landscaping as you would like. You can have a pond completely enclosed, or you can allow access to a small portion of the garden for a pool and a small pond.
